Bushfires in NSW
Please pray for school communities around the Sydney area. A number a have been impacted or threaten to be impacted by the horrific fires, particularly in the Blue Mountains and Southern Highlands areas.
The forecast is for hot and windy weather on Tuesday and Wednesday. Schools that have not been close to the fire could potentially be threatened depending on the wind direction.
Mountains Christian College is on the southern side of the Great Western Highway and the fire is currently on the northern side. However, the fire could jump the highway, putting the school in danger. The college is closed until Thursday.
Kuyper Christian School is in a bushland setting at North Richmond. North westerly winds predicted for Wednesday could drive the fires currently threatening the communities of Bilpin and Bell through the Grose Valley toward Kurrajong.
Many Nepean Christian School families and staff members live in the Blue Mountains in areas that are threatened by the fires. Some families and staff have already lost their homes. The school will be closed on Tuesday.
Southern Highlands Christian School, while not currently threatened by the fires is in an area where fires have impacted the surrounding communities.
Wycliffe Christian School at Warrimoo is close to the fires and members of staff as well as school families have lost homes. The school is closed today and tomorrow.
The NSW Rural Fire Service website has announced that all Government, Catholic and Independent Schools in the Blue Mountains Local Government Area will be closed tomorrow Wednesday, October 25.
According to reports approximately 200 homes have been lost in the Blue Mountains.
