With only three sitting days to go for the current parliament before it rises and the members and senators move inexorably to the campaign trail (or to retirement in the case of some), we are faced with a fairly ugly picture – the worst of politics. Over a hundred pieces of legislation are being rammed through both houses without the due diligence and caution that citizens should reasonably expect of the political process. Amongst these bills there is some very sensitive legislation that will be of great interest and concern to our member schools, particularly the Australian Education Bill 2013 (as amended), the Australian Education (Consequential and Transitional Provisions) Bill 2013 and amendments to the Sex Discrimination Amendment (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Intersex) Bill 2013.
